“Only one thing is important” Luke 10:42

 

I think I understand

this Mary/Martha thing;

it’s not that sitting at your feet was better

than doing the dishes

(though that must have been pretty awesome).

It was that Martha who served you by

cooking, cleaning and giving hospitality,

was agitated and upset.

And in her fretting

she stopped thinking about you Lord.

Her concern was for herself – Martha –

how she would manage

especially as she thought Mary

should be helping her.

You know we need to eat, Lord,

but sometimes, often,

we’re more concerned about

what we eat, and the time we eat it,

rather than taking time for you.

 

Lord, take my anxious, sometimes frazzled life,

breathe your peace and calm into it.

“Only one thing is important.”

Help me to live that truth

and put you at the centre of everything.

“Only one thing is important.”

Help me to keep focused on you,

to do less,

and accomplish more.
