Stay with me

forest-friends-friendship-591216_edited.

‘When the two of them came near the village where they were going, Jesus seemed to be going further. They begged him, “Stay with us! It’s already late, and the sun is going down.” So Jesus went into the house to stay with them.’ Luke 24:28-29 (CEV)

Keep with me, Lord
Don’t go on ahead, leaving me behind.
Stay here, with me;
Hold my hand.
Let me feel the pressure of your touch
against mine.
You see, sometimes I’m slow
and I need time to grasp things,
time to realise how your plan is unfolding.
I need to sit down and think things out
in my head,
write them down,
generally ponder.
And I can’t do that if you’re ahead of me.

Keep with me, Lord,
Don’t let me go racing ahead.
Stay here with me;
Hold my hand.
Let me be as a child again,
eager to be held,
safe in your arms.

You see, sometimes I think I know best,
have all these things worked out
but in my reckonings
I’ve forgotten you might have something
to say.

Keep with me, Lord.
Let’s walk side by side,
hand in hand.
You will only be in my life
by invitation.
You won’t bully, coerce
or manipulate your way in.
Don’t go on ahead;
stay with me.
Tell me your thoughts,
inspire me with your holy vision,
energise me,
guide me,
that my steps will be in sync with yours

and will go on to bless, heal and free others.
